Who We Are

Aisha Onsando

Portfolio Manager Kenya
I am driven by a sense of justice. I am driven by a love of my home. I am driven by my experiences working with frustrated but driven changemakers and their communities and witnessing them navigate the impossible dynamics produced by traditional philanthropy. I am driven by a belief that shifting resources and power into the hands of African changemakers will produce a brighter future.

Aisha Onsando, a Nairobi-based lawyer and strategist, is a passionate advocate of human rights. She has served as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and argued at Kenya’s Court of Appeal. Prior to joining the African Visionary Fund, Onsando worked as a consultant, building outreach and advocacy strategies for grassroots organizations and networks across Africa. She has also worked at Amnesty International, Civicus, and the Spatial Collective. She holds an LLB from the London School of Economics and a Masters in Human Rights from Columbia University, where she wrote a thesis on coloniality, human rights and the eradication of female genital mutilation in Kenya.
