Aisha Onsando joins the AVFund

Mar 2, 2022

We’ve got some exciting news…our team has grown!  As the momentum behind our work transforming the face of philanthropy alongside innovative African changemakers accelerates, we are humbled and thrilled to announce the hiring of Aisha Onsando. Aisha Onsando, a Nairobi-based lawyer, strategist, and passionate advocate of human rights has joined the African Visionary Fund as our very first Portfolio Manager.

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Onsando has argued at Kenya’s Court of Appeal. In her role as Portfolio Manager, Onsando will forge strong relationships and work closely with our visionary partners—a group of local, African-led and founded organizations currently spanning 15 countries—to help them accelerate their missions.

I consider myself an accomplice to the grantees' goals and visions. And I am enthusiastic about setting up relationships and systems that reflect the fact that my priority is the success of their work and the realization of their visions.

Prior to joining the African Visionary Fund, Onsando worked as a consultant, building outreach and advocacy strategies for grassroots organizations and networks across Africa. She has also worked at Amnesty International, Civicus, and the Spatial Collective.

She holds an LLB from the London School of Economics and a Masters in Human Rights from Columbia University, where she wrote a thesis on coloniality, human rights and the eradication of female genital mutilation in Kenya.

 Welcome to the team, Aisha!
