Wawira Njiru & Jailan Adly Join AVFund Board
African Visionary Fund is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to our Board: Wawira Njiru and Jailan Adly.
Wawira and Jailan share a commitment to supporting proximate African leadership, an enthusiasm for social impact and a deep desire to push for radical change within philanthropy. Their expertise is an invaluable asset to our organization as we work to further our mission to amplify the impact of African visionaries.
Meet Our Newest Members
Wawira Njiru
Current Role: Founder of Food for Education, a social enterprise that is leveraging community, parent and government partnerships at scale to expand national school feeding programs. Led by African women, Food for Education enables the most vulnerable to learn more effectively by leveraging technology and smart supply chains to bring high-quality daily school meals to children while supporting smallholder farmers.
Recent Accomplishments:
2022: UN Kenya Icon Award recipient; 2021: UN Kenya Person of the Year, World Economic Forum Young Global Leader Class of 2021; 2020 Ford Foundation Global Fellow; 2018: First recipient of the Global Citizen Youth Leadership Prize presented by Cisco , Rainer Arnhold Fellow, Builders of Africa Award recipient, Top 40 under 40 Women Kenya; 2017: Youngest recipient of the University of South Australia’s Alumni Award

Jailan Aldy
Jailan Adly is a global development and social impact executive and strategist who believes in the power of collaborative partnerships to tackle and solve our most complex global challenges. Jailan has spent her career forging mutually beneficial partnerships between diverse stakeholders from the private, public, and social sectors to build the capacity of impact-driven initiatives, individuals, and organizations.
Current Role: Managing Director at GoodCitizen, an executive search firm that focuses on helping social sector organizations find extraordinary leaders to move the needle forward on complex challenges.
Prior Role: CEO at RefuSHE, an award-winning NGO that supports refugee girls, young women, and children in East Africa. There, she led a leadership transition to shift the organization’s strategic decision-making and CEO position to Kenya, where the organization’s operations are located.
Jailan believes that proximate leadership holds the key to long-lasting sustainable impact.
